R-12

Summary

R-12 is a colorless and odorless CFC refrigerant that was completely banned from production by 1996 under the Montreal Protocol for depleting the ozone. R-12 has many applications in refrigeration and air conditioning including large to mediums size chillers, automotive air conditioning, and as an aerosol propellant. R-12 is high-pressure and typically stored in white containers.

Most Common Replacements:

R-123, R-22, and R-400 series blends (HCFC’s), being phased out in 2020 for the United states and other developed countries.
